FOOLS, by Neil Simon
Everett
Friday, May 6 to Sunday, May 22.
The story is set in Kulyenchikov, a Russian village that, from all appearances, is idyllic. However, the tragedy of the villagers' lives is that they've all been cursed with chronic stupidity for 200 years. Out of desperation, they hire a young schoolteacher, Leon Tolchinsky, to break the curse. What they don't tell Leon, though, is that if he fails in his efforts, he, too, will become stupid. And he has just 24 hours to put an end to the curse. A perfect description of this play would be "Chekov meets Mel Brooks meets Holes meets Romeo and Juliet." Fools, a comedy by renowned playwright Neil Simon, is a play the entire family can enjoy, a "light, frothy" tale filled with silliness, chronic stupidity and, well, not much more. Neil Simon calls this play a 'comic fable.'
     Location: 2911 Colby Avenue
     Time: 8:00 pm Fri.,Sat., 2:00 Sun.
Directions: The box office is open Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 5:00 pm, and for 30 minutes before the show. The Historic Everett Theatre is located 2911 Colby Avenue in downtown Everett. Please visit our website at www.everetttheatre.org.
