City of Snohomish Adopt-a-Park Program
Interested in Adopting a Park?

The Adopt-a-Park Program is a program available to community groups, neighborhood groups, businesses, families, or individuals who wish to take an active role in maintaining the wonderful parks in Snohomish. Some of the tasks that groups can participate in are litter pickup, painting picnic tables or playground equipment, planting and tending to flowers, raking, or other activities to enhance the Snohomish parks.

Why Adopt-a-Park?

Developed a few years ago, the program’s purpose is to utilize community-based help to supplement our Parks Department. We are lucky to have 13 parks and open spaces which contribute greatly to our wonderful quality of life. With a budget which allows for 1 ½ people to maintain all that, the city needs some help.

How To Adopt-a-Park

Pick a Park-- We have many parks to choose from. Big parks such as Pilchuck, Ferguson, Hill, and the Skate park complex. We also have smaller scale neighborhood parks; Morgantown, Claytown, Fischer, Cady, and Kla Ha Ya parks. Pocket parks are even smaller areas which need attention; Union & First St. benches and railing area, City Hall flower beds, street islands, the Gazebo and stairs down to the trail, Benches along First street, and our Gateway areas around town. Also many Right Of Way areas and trails need weed whacking and mowing. Click on the "City Parks Which Need Help" link to see a map of city park locations.

What do you want to do?
All our parks share the same needs: mowing, weeding, raking, litter control, maintenance of any picnic tables or benches and other facilities. Also, wood chip fluffing and spreading in any play areas.

Tell us-- Click on the "Contact Us" link and email us what you'd like to do, where and when. We'll send you a Volunteer release form to sign and return. We can also coordinate your desired activity with others who might be doing similar projects. If you'd like to talk to a person, you can call Lya Badgley, the Adopt-a-Park coordinator at (360) 563-5033. Click on our "Guest Book" link to post any comments or appropriate info to share. We will post any work parties or other events on our "Upcoming Events" link. Join our mailing list to be informed of upcoming events!

IPM-- The city of Snohomish recently made a great step forward toward reducing harmful toxins in our parks and public places by adopting an Integrated Pest Management strategy for the city. Products determined to be "high hazard" are no longer allowed. If you have any questions regarding this policy you can contact Lya Badgley. Click on the Pest Management link to read the policy.

Possible Group Work Party Projects

Wood chips in play areas

Snohomish has seven parks that need new wood chips spread annually. For 2004 we have 2 parks that still haven’t been signed-up for a work party to do this.

Blackberry Busters

Oh, those blackberries! The blackberries covering the banks behind the ball fields in Pilchuck Park keep eating balls! We need some machete wielders!

Wash & stain the First Street & Union pocket park benches & railing

We all like to sit there on a sunny day with an ice cream! The wooden parts need pressure washing and staining to look great.
